This week, President Trump signed off on US forces to use a 21,600-pound bomb in an effort to destroy ISIS—re: Nangahar Province. While the exact number of kills and damage has yet to determined, Kandahar-based, freelance-journalist Ahmad Wali Sarhadi was able to provide some details.
Sarhadi’s relay from Nangahar’s government officials:
“Yeah, I am on the line with local officials of Nangarhar. They say a big complex of ISIS has been destroyed by the dropping of the bomb from the US! ISIS’s biggest complex in Afghanistan is destroyed. They say more than 100 ISIS members are killed. The casualties may get higher.”
Sarhadi added they’ve yet to assess whether or not any civilians were killed, but Nangahar’s officials informed that there’s a chance…
More will come soon, but this is the initial-aftermath assessment. Additionally, because of the casualty numbers, the US’s MOAB (Mother of All Bombs) is definitely the most impacting non-nuclear, anti-ISIS weapon thus far.
