It seems satirical-news shows are stepping out of line—too much. Full Frontal with Samantha Bee went too far when they had a post-surgery patient in their montage depicting “Nazi haircuts” people at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The “Whither Conservatism” segment featured OUTSET Magazine-contributor Kyle Coddington—he’s also a college student undergoing brain-cancer treatments.

Upon this, Twitter went wild—including a Tweet from Coddington’s sister (at least they claimed as such). Further, Kyle recently had his first chemotherapy treatment prior to the late-February CPAC event.

Samantha Bee & her crew made a formal apology for featuring Coddington in their “conservativism” segment via a Tweet tagging Coddington’s Twitter handle. “We only learned of his condition today & have removed him from the piece,” the Bee Crew said.

But it was too little, too late, as OUTSET Editor-in-Chief Stephen Perkins weighed in on behalf of his journalist.

Even the conservative publication itself released a statement in their efforts. “Perhaps you could also remove every, other person you made baseless generalizations about. But then you would have no segment at all,” the publication posted on Twitter—as well as “We are appalled by @iamsambee’s grotesque mocking, and we stand behind our contributor, @_that_kyle.”

While Kyle’s friends and family spoke out, Coddington himself was seemingly a good sport over the whole debacle.

Kyle’s friends lovingly set up a GoFundMe page to help pay his medical bills—Coddington’s from a family of seven! Even Full Frontal with Samantha Bee donated $1,000 to help out—TBS confirmed it with the Washington Examiner. “We wish you the best, Kyle!” The Bee Crew posted on Kyle’s page.
