A high-ranking Mexican official was arrested at the border after he was caught smuggling drugs.
According to the USA today, U.S. officials in San Diego arrested a Mexican national for attempting to smuggle drugs across the border. It’s a relatively common occurrence and just another day in the life of border patrol. But the real surprise happened when they identified the Mexican national as Edgar Veytia, the attorney general for the western Mexican state of Nayarit
He was indicted for “conspiracy to smuggle cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine across the border” at San Diego. Veytia is currently being held in San Diego and is expected to appear in court on Thursday.“As attorney general, Veytia is the top law enforcement official in Nayarit, a state in western Mexico between the cities of Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta,” reports USA Today.
Mexican officials claim that the news was unexpected but they did not add any new information.
