Notre Dame College is filled with a world of academically gifted students but academic caliber isn’t the only measure of ingenuity. One important measure is a person’s response to wise counsel and there are a lot of Notre Dame students who are in the gutter when it comes to this measurement.

Mike Pence, one of the most powerful men in the world right now will be visiting the campus to share his knowledge and insight and instead of taking the opportunity to learn, many students will be protesting.

Now tell me, is that smart?

Many students plan to walk out during Pence’s commencement speech at the campus to protest the Trump administration and the policies associated with it.

These students claim that many of the policies are racist, bias and full of discrimination.

Luis Miranda, a co-organizer of the walkout believes that it is within his beliefs as a catholic to protest the Trump administration. But there is something very interesting to note about Mr. Miranda. Some of his family members are ILLEGAL immigrants and they feel threatened by Trump’s crackdown on immigration.”They are going to be in the audience in one of the most important moments of my life with someone targeting them for who they are,” he said.

“They are going to be in the audience in one of the most important moments of my life with someone targeting them for who they are,” Miranda said.

A Facebook event page was created for the walkout and in details exactly how the walkout should be conducted.

“This is not just about the numbers, but about standing up for truth,” Miranda said. “We feel that there is power in truth and hopefully there will be power in numbers that come stand up with us.”

Now, I couldn’t care less about the protests of Liberals. What am I concerned about it is the safety of people during the protests. And, since police and security officials will be manning the event and keeping the peace I think we can assume that the protests will be quiet and without “incident”.

“We’re not concerned,” Paul Browne, a spokesperson for Notre Dame said. “We think they will be respectful in the way they express their differences with the administration.”

So, the few liberals who decide to walk out would not affect the proceedings and will most definitely just be a waste of time. But liberals will be liberals, right?

I think the liberals should just walk out of the school while they are at it.

Anyway, let’s not let the protestors take our mind off of the good that will be happening on Sunday. Mike Pence will be receiving an honorary degree from the University and he will become the first vice-president to give a commencement speech at Notre Dame College.

“It is fitting that in the 175th year of our founding on Indiana soil that Notre Dame recognize a native son who served our state and now the nation with quiet earnestness, moral conviction and a dedication to the common good characteristic of true statesmen,” Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins said in a statement.

Congratulations to Pence on his achievement.
