April Fools is gone but the laughter still remains days after its passing. Google and Snapchat were on the top of the list as the best April Fools Pranksters but Russia’s addition to the list possibly topped the two tech giants.
On April 1st, the Russian Foreign Ministry posted an audio file to their Facebook page. It contained a message that had many on the floor in uncontrollable laughter.
The message which was in both English and Russian went something like this: “You have reached the Russian Embassy. Your call is very important to us. To arrange a call from a Russian diplomat to your political opponent, press 1,” Users are then told to “press 2” in order “to use the services of Russian hackers.” For “election interference” requests, “press 3.”
And of course, news sites like the Associated Press went after the story to just ensure that it was, in fact, fake. It was fake. It’s a given that you don’t trust any news released on April 1st.
This April Fools prank by Russia came just two days after Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized Democrats for playing the “Russian card” to justify their loss.
CBS News reports that president Putin called all the accusations that Russia interfered with the US election “endless and groundless”.
So I guess Russia does have a sense of humor after all!!
